BACKROADS RADIO
Lew Alpaugh began hosting Backroads on Cape Breton’s CKJM in 2002 and the weekly program has been airing continuously ever since.
Before long the show was offered to other stations in the US, Canada and the U.K. and currently airs around the world on the internet.
A lifelong musician, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Lew has written and performed with jazz and country groups for most of his life. He has backed artists like Tommy Cash and Merle Kilgore. His folk group, “Point Cross” has appeared in concert with Alison Krauss, The Seldom Scene Beausoliel and many others. As a young musician Lew also played jazz piano with the late great guitarist, Hank Garland, at the Carousel Club in Nashville.
Lew’s dedication to country and traditional music is evident in the more than 500 programs he has created, programs featuring individual artists, interviews and themed shows such as Women In Bluegrass and Famous Backing Bands.
